Fiddlers Grove Woodcarvers

January 2021 Newsletter
Since we haven't been having meetings, I thought I would try something new and do a webpage with pictures of carvings done by club members. I don't have the software nor the skills to do one of those "fancy" documents that will work with email but I will look into it. For the time being, I will use a simple webpage because, with all the graphics, some email clients won't accept an email made so large because of the pictures. As a result, I end up having to resize all the pictures until I find a size that will send and won't get kicked back to me -- an extremely time consuming process. With the webpage, the pictures can be larger and easier to see (especially for members with "older" eyes like me). l will increase the size of the font as well so it is easier to read.. My HTML skills have declined over the years (like everything else) so the webpage will be very simple. I am an "old-school hard coder" so I don't use the sophisticated webpage programs that write all the code for you. Each line of code I write myself which, in and of itself, is not difficult but remembering what code to use can be a challenge. Also, browsers have changed dramatically over the years, and each one is different, so hopefully the webpage will format correctly for you. Let me know if you have problems.

I received the following update from Butch:
Rich,
I am doing very well, thanks for asking . I should have been in touch before now but the first few days were not so easy. Evelyn has been very supportive and is really taking good care of me.
Yesterday I went out to the shop for a few hours. Didn't do much but it was good to spend some time out there. I didn't touch any knives, mostly looked at carving magazines .
Maybe we can get back to Tuesday afternoon carve-ins before long.
Thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers and I hope to see everyone soon.
Regards, Butch
We hope to get back to meeting soon -- it depends on how things are going with COVID. We don't want to put anyone at risk by meeting so stay tuned for more information in the future.
I received a note from Randall Clemons regarding upcoming events in Granville -- Keep these dates in mind.
We would like to have woodcarvers at our festivals on the following dates
April 10, May 29, and Oct 2. We would deeply appreciate your support.
I also received a message from Rose Skaggs who is a master gardener at Fiddlers Grove. She is interested in having a house cat carved out of a piece of wood from an ash tree that was in her backyard. She would like the carving for a Christmas present for her daughter in 2021. The cat loved to claw on the tree and now both the cat and the tree are gone. Below is a picture of the piece of wood -- if you are interested let me know and I will get you in contact with her. She also indicated an interest in learning to carve wood so hopefully she will join us
